“Interview with Gina Biggs of Filthy Figments,” a comic by Jey Pawlik is done in cool textured colors with mint greens and light pinks. Jey is a non-binary person with a chubby build with short hair and some gray hair, wears large, thick square glasses and comfortable, casual clothing. Gina Biggs is a cis woman with medium-length, light-colored hair, sporting cat-eye glasses with a strawberry necklace, and a black t-shirt tucked into a cute long floral skirt.
Jey is furiously drawing cute sexy character ideas on a paper while saying, “Inspiration has hit me! What a super sexy story I have in my hands! I’ll add a little bit of this, a little bit of that…”
Jey pauses. “—Hm. Where will it live? The internet is riddled with censorship right now, there aren’t many places I COULD post it… WAIT!”
They run off, pieces of paper in hand flying and falling behind them as they run into a pink area instead of their usual mint green while saying, “I JUST know who to talk to about this!”
Jey walks into a room and gestures happily to her friend Gina Biggs, who is sitting at a computer desk with a tablet she’s working on with two women kissing and the Filthy Figments website on the largest monitor. Jey introduces her: “My good friend and sexy comics enthusiast Gina Biggs and her site Filthy Figments!”
Gina smiles and replies “Hi Jey~”

Gina herself continues her introduction by saying, “My main focus is love, romance, and self-discovery. I like to explore the many facets of human connections and love in any form, whether romantic, platonic, spiritual, whatever. I’ve been doing that for a million billion years, and then in 2010, I launched Filthy Figments, an erotic comics subscription site.”
Jey rubs her chin and asks, “Tell me Gina, I’ve been a FF artist for a long time, but how did it all come about? I never heard the story.”
Gina responds, “Well, to get to the point, I was writing a webcomic and the characters had gotten to a point where they were going to explore their relationship more, and a good friend encouraged me to draw it.”
We see an aerial view of a convention center covered in a huge layer of snow. Gina narrates: “Once I realized how popular I was, I approached a handful of friends while we were at a convention, with the idea of doing dirty comics together.”
“We wandered around the empty convention, chatted with other artists and everything went well.”
In the same flashback, we see young Gina and a group of people talking in the empty hallway of an artists’ alley. Gina goes on to narrate, “And we had like 50 signups the first day we posted. That surprised us! We realized that people want to see erotica explored through a different lens.”

Gina stands in front of a red curtain and opens it as a bright light shines. Gina says, “Filthy Figments gave me a way to promote people who were really doing amazing work, or just putting a new kind of lens on things. I love being able to do that. I know it sounds gushy. But it’s the most rewarding part, being able to tell these stories that otherwise wouldn’t have been told. You know, some of our artists said they felt really comfortable working with our close-knit group and that they felt safe.”
Jey chimes in and punches the air excitedly. “You’re very friendly and respectful to everyone you work with on the site. You’re just… very nice to work with. If, say, Max and I have an idea, you’re always like, ‘Oh, sure, yeah, go ahead!'”
Gina seems a little shy about the praise and goes on to say, “I’m so happy to hear that! I’m doing my best! I love that we all work together to lift each other up, and I’m so glad that people really feel that. That’s really what I want to continue doing.”
Jey and Gina continue chatting as the camera zooms out and comic book pages flutter around them. Gina says, “Webcomics are a way to tell these other stories. Let’s make it public! It’s okay that it’s not in a bookstore. We have an outlet to be storytellers, no matter what.”
Jey adds enthusiastically, “Max and I have gotten feedback on our Filthy Figments comics, people saying, ‘That’s me.’ And I love that! That’s why we do it! With our goal of making old, fat characters sexy, the fact that Filthy Figments is here to support those stories that maybe aren’t ‘marketable’ feels really good. You know?
Gina goes on to say, “Oh yeah. The media makes a big difference in people’s feelings toward storytelling in general. There’s always been a very limited range of what you see. I’d like to tell stories that are different, that are us, that celebrate us all.”

A small panel where Jey has her hands on her heart and Gina blushes while saying, “I’m getting romantic telling stories there!”
Jey replies, “No, that’s really lovely!” He then goes on to ask, “Since you mentioned you’ve been at this for a long time.”
Gina quickly says “Yes.”
Jey continues “what has changed since you started, whether good or bad?”
Gina puts her hands on her hips and responds matter-of-factly, “Well, my goodness! We recently updated the site and the new things we can do are blowing me away. But the biggest change has to do with policing what we can post. Our avenues to spread the word about what we’re doing have been shrinking. Especially with the credit card companies, who control and enforce their rules on everything. It’s been tough.”
The two switch to a desktop view, where Jey and Gina are little desktop buddies on top of the new Filthy Figments website, showing off a bit of the sexy comics in the comics archive. Jey says, “By the way, the site looks amazing!”
Gina waves happily and says, “Thank you! The changes were inspired by years of knowing I needed to do it, but not really having the resources or knowledge to be able to do it. We’re much more mobile-friendly now, and the categorization system is much better than before. There was a steep learning curve, but I learned a lot about how to create a website, something I’d always had someone else do. Now I feel like I’ll be able to keep up because I understand what’s going on on the site.”

Jey looks at Gina excitedly and asks, “So, what kind of things are you looking for in an upcoming story?”
Gina puts her hands together as hearts appear around her as she says, “I always look for the heart in a story. I love when it’s sexy, but I want to feel the emotions of those characters, you know?”
Jey says “Of course!”
Gina puts her hands over her heart as the wind blows and happily says, “When I read it, it might be sexy, but does it make me feel like, ‘Wow, that character is feeling those feelings?'” Whether it’s just to turn me on or to make me fall in love, like, “Is this grabbing me in an amazing storytelling way?” while the Filthy Figments mascots get a little hot and heavy in the comic panels behind Gina.
Jey puts a finger on their chin with a smile and says, “Oh, that’s wonderful. I guess you’re really looking for sincerity then.”
Gina enthusiastically responds, “Yes, that’s the perfect word!”
Jey continues, “I really appreciate that it’s something you have an eye for…”
Suddenly, Jey raises his arms in surprise and I remember, “OH!!! I almost forgot, I had a new comedy idea to present to you!”
Gina seems excited and says, “Great, I can’t wait to read it!”
